ABOUT ADAM BARNFIELD

I started my career at the Valuation Office in initially in the Birmingham Office before moving to the Coventry Office. During this time I gained an in-depth knowledge of the rating discipline and local-taxation in general.In 2007 I joined Ruddle Merz and continued to grow my knowledge of business rates, providing advice to a vast array of clients in respect of a vast spectrum of properties, from shops to sawmills and warehouses to football stadiums, all across the UK – literally from Land’s End to John O’Groats! Following the acquisition of Ruddle Merz by Vail Williams in 2017, I continue to provide expert advice in respect of new and existing clients.My knowledge of business rates enables me to provide advice from all angles;* full/partial empty space relief – through applications to the local authorities* properties affected by road or building works, or other circumstantial events – through MCC (Material Change of Circumstance) appeals, and;* appeals to the Valuation Office if I believe a rateable value is incorrectAll of the above is achieved by working closely with my clients. Conducting surveys of all properties in the first instance, following that up with detailed analysis of my findings and providing advice on how to effectively challenge applied rateable values. Culminating in negotiations with the Valuation Office to achieve savings on my client’s behalf. If resolution with the VO cannot be achieved, I am more than happy to represent at Valuation Tribunal. My current focus is on providing advice in respect of the 2017 Rating List for clients located in both England and Wales.
