Initially starting his service with the Militia in British Columbia, Acton has served throughout Canada and on five continents. His operational service has seen him deployed in operations ranging from Domestic emergency responses (floods, fires, ice storms, security) to complex peacekeeping and stabilization operations and war. In most of his operational deployments, he has worked within an international, multi-agency environment where he has been required to work with international military partners, other governmental organizations and the full spectrum of non-governmental organizations. Although a military officer, Acton has been responsible for the care, management and supervision of public service, civilian professionals and contracted workers in both operational and routine conditions.Acton has a strong background in military leadership and command, strategic planning, human resource management, staff procedures and resource management at levels ranging from small organizations up to supporting the resource and activity prioritization at the strategic level for the Canadian Armed Forces. He has planned, managed and directed resource programs (personnel, financial, materiel and equipment) for government activity programs up to $5B. In an operational context he managed, planned and developed implementation plans for stabilization programs ranging from small-funding multi-national works programs to $100M major infrastructure renewal projects. Acton is recognized as a caring but firm leader who ensure his people have clear direction, a positive work environment and the resources to deliver on tasks.
