ABOUT ACRAN SALMEN NAVARRO
Dr. Acran Salmen-Navarro is a Physician, trained in Occupational Medicine with a graduate degree in Ergonomics and Biomechanics and a Postdoctoral fellowship in Population Health and Healthcare Delivery Science from New York University. Currently affiliated with the NYU Grossman School of Medicine within the department of Population Health.His focus is promoting occupational health to vulnerable working populations with multiple global interventions, and more recently in NYC Health and Hospital. National recognition appointed him as a member for the CDC|NIOSH NORA MSD Health Council and leadership positions within ACOEM / MARCOEM. Internationally, he is part of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) TCsfor MSDs and informal workers. Within International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), he is Chair of the SC on OH for Health Workers and one of the leads in the topic of OH for migrant worker in the Working Group of Demographic Changes, inequalities and Future of Decent Work. More recently, it is one of the leaders in the creation of the Global Coalition for Informal Workers.Dr. Salmen-Navarro has dedicated his career studying these workers, implementing preventing programs and fomenting protective policies to improve their working conditions. These achievements have been possible due to his deep clinical, social and research understanding of how work acts as a social determinant of health. Also, due to his leadership positions and collegial network within institutions such as ICOH, IEA, CDC|NIOSH and by managing key programs at the Bellevue / NYU Occupational Environmental Medicine Clinic which is a part of the New York City Health and Hospitals -the largest public health system in the United States.Research Interests:o Occupational Health of vulnerable working populations i.e. Informal workers, migrant workers, aging workers, child labor, pregnant workers.o Ergonomic interventions and workplace design to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders.o Occupational health of Healthcare Workers o Work as a social determinant of health
