About Achyut Kumar Banerjee
I am a plant ecologist with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Botany from the University of Calcutta. I completed my PhD from Indian Statistical Institute (Kolkata, India) and did my postdoc at Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou, China). I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Arts and Sciences at Azim Premji University, Bhopal.I have been working in the domain of biological invasion, one of the main components of global change. Over the past 12 years, my research has focused on understanding how some species become community-dominant when introduced outside their native range. My approach combines molecular and historical biogeography, environmental niche modeling, and field and controlled experiments to characterize phenotypic trait variation, growth dynamics, and community ecology. Throughout this journey of interdisciplinary research, I have acquired skills in data science and geospatial technologies. I have secured funding through grants and partnerships, and my findings have been featured in top-tier scientific journals.
