ABOUT ACHU THILAK
I am a Geoscientist-in-Training (APEGA #300164) with over three years of combined experience in geotechnical, geological, and oil & gas field operations, specializing in subsurface investigations, instrumentation, and drone-based terrain mapping across Canada’s energy sector.Currently working with Stantec at Imperial Oil’s Kearl Oil Sands, I contribute to geotechnical drilling programs, core logging, geohazard monitoring, and QA/QC documentation for large-scale mining and infrastructure projects. My role integrates field geology, geophysical instrumentation (Slope Inclinometers, VWPs, Monitoring Wells), and UAV photogrammetry to enhance data accuracy and operational efficiency in demanding site conditions. With a Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Technology from SAIT and advanced degrees in Geology (M.Sc. & B.Sc.) from the University of Kerala, I combine strong academic knowledge with practical experience in SAGD operations, subsurface modeling, and environmental compliance. I previously supported Imperial Oil’s NCG Coinjection SAGD Research Program, strengthening my technical understanding of reservoir behavior, thermal recovery, and field performance monitoring. My career is guided by a commitment to safe, data-driven, and sustainable field operations whether in oil sands, mining, or energy infrastructure. I am open to rotational, remote, and travel-based roles across Canada and internationally, especially in geotechnical, petroleum, and hydrogeological projects that integrate field geology with emerging technologies like UAV LiDAR and digital mapping.
