About Achal Singh Achrol

I am a physician-executive and Stanford-trained neurosurgeon building scalable platforms that improve human health through devices, therapeutics, AI and data.I serve in senior leadership roles across health technology, medical device, and biotechnology platforms, translating emerging science into scalable and economically durable systems. My work focuses on the strategies required to take frontier clinical science to scale, embedding medical insight upstream into engineering, data architecture, and long-term value creation for platforms designed for long-horizon impact.Across these roles, I operate at a portfolio level with enterprise leadership teams and boards, shaping decisions at the point where data becomes medicine, prediction becomes intervention, and therapeutic systems move from research concepts to real-world clinical treatment. My work spans interventional modalities (including energy-based, device, and hybrid biologic platforms), ensuring innovation accelerates without creating unmanaged clinical, regulatory, or reputational risk. In parallel, I am deeply involved in company-building, including capitalization strategy, organizational design, executive alignment, and the transition from research-driven innovation to industry-scale execution. My experience spans neuromodulation, brain mapping, and robotics; AI-enabled devices and wearable sensing platforms; regenerative medicine and drug–device co-development; and precision CNS delivery systems. With formal training in computer science and electrical engineering, early experience in Big Data and AI/ML (UCSF, Stanford), and leadership of first-in-human and registrational clinical programs through category-defining FDA approvals, I work fluently across clinical, technical, and executive domains. I am frequently engaged by senior leadership teams and boards to advise on clinical strategy, portfolio prioritization, and long-term enterprise direction.Early in my career as academic neurosurgery faculty, I led paradigm-shifting clinical and translational research across neuro-oncology, neuromodulation, brain–computer interfaces (BCI), focused ultrasound (FUS), immunotherapy, stem cell biology, and precision CNS delivery—experience that continues to inform my approach to platform medicine and responsible innovation. At every stage, I believe in building high-trust, execution-oriented cultures that align engineering & scientific ambition with clinical integrity, enabling technology to reduce human suffering at scale, while building durable organizations that can endure as generational companies.

Experience

  1. Chief Medical Officer

    Magnus

    Jan 2024 — Present

Magnus is advancing precision brain health by expanding the impact of Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy (SAINT) through a scalable platform that integrates functional brain mapping, AI-enabled wearable sensing, and noninvasive neuromodulation within personalized care pathways. The platform has demonstrated rapid remission and durable benefit in treatment-resistant populations, achieved FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation and subsequent FDA clearance, and become the first brain health intervention to secure CMS innovation reimbursement through the NTAP and New Technology APC pathways—an inflection point in how conditions historically managed only symptomatically are clinically valued, with procedural reimbursement now established for brain-based diseases treatable at their underlying mechanistic network level. As Chief Medical Officer, I lead enterprise medical, clinical, and regulatory strategy. My role spans clinical development and evidence generation, platform governance, strategic partnerships, and health-system deployment, ensuring innovation scales with clinical rigor, regulatory credibility, and economic durability.Magnus was spun out of Stanford University and has raised over $80M from leading technology and healthcare investors, including Khosla Ventures, Red Tree Venture Capital and JAZZ Venture Partners.
