About Suraj A.
I am currently working as a Software Engineer with Snowflake. I am mainly focused on the Security aspect of the Snowflake Product. My main area of work has been authorization and authentication for Snowflake. I help in adding new modes of authentication in to the product and various features once inside the product.In the past I have worked as a Software Developer at Cloudera. I was a part of the Cloud Core team. Where I worked on adding functionality to the backend services for Cloudera Altus to make it compatible with multiple cloud providers. I also worked on CI/CD for the Cloud Services team. Prior to working in the cloud team, I worked in the security domain. I worked on the Key Trustee Server, Key HSM and KMS which form the backbone of HDFS Data Encryption. In my free time I contribute to the open source community. SnowPark Container Services- Part of the Ingress and Image Registry Team- Provide a pathway to access services hosted in SPCS programmatically using JWT- Built support for Private Link with services and registry.Database Security and Privacy Engineering- Worked mainly on the authorization and the authentication layer of the SQL engine- Integrate multiple authentication mechanisms with snowflake stack eg Oauth, SSO- Open up snowflake to be easily setup to authenticate via 3rd parties but keep the product safe for both the customers and company. eg Okta, ADFS, Ping- Add new functionalities to the authorization layer to make the product more user-friendly while not reducing the security posture or the load on the product- Work on performance improvements for authorization call stacks- Helped build and productize Snowflake’s Data classification product. Built multi-tenant products which are able to scale to parse 100’s of tables in of accounts in a predefined manner and produce classification insights of the data stored in the tables- Part of Snowflake’s Data Clean Room initiative. Helped build out policies and integrate them into the clean room product. Implement compiler optimizations to help improve the overall delivery of the feature.
