About Abu Lais
What we know is a drop and what we don’t know is an ocean”- Sir Isaac Newton.Engineering is a discipline which requires continuous development. It is essential to keep on growing since the world is moving to new technologies every day. As a result new problems will rise which can be solved with careful planning and proper risk assessment. Hazards and risks can be reduced drastically through proper planning and safety. My passion for science, mathematics and problem solving lead me to pursue my degree in process engineering. The mining and oil & gas industries seemed like an interesting challenge where you need to develop your skill set every day. As a result I have combined my academic learning, previous work experiences and analytical approach to problem solving to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. Some of the values which define my personality would be “loyalty” and adhering to a “safety first” environment. My colleagues would describe me as a workaholic and a competitive individual who always aspires to be the best possible version of himself. I believe in order to be successful one must build strong relationships, a dogged work ethic and a positive attitude while solving problems.I have worked with the process engineering research department at Memorial University for eight months where I have gained an extensive amount of knowledge on process control systems and the applications of process automation in a small laboratory based system. I have worked with North Atlantic Refining Limited (NARL) which is one of the largest oil refining companies in Atlantic Canada. This experience has given me a degree of knowledge about the oil and gas industry. Furthermore, I have worked with Rio Tinto where I have gained significant insight to the applications of mineral processing and mining.
