ABOUT ALAN BOWENS

I am a software engineer these days, but my degree is in electronics. After university I worked for a mobile radio consultancy. I then joined a consumer electronics organization. This was then acquired by a semiconductor manufacturer. This career path has seen me work in organizations from start-up to institutional. It has also given me a broad background in hardware, software, and systems analysis.My electronics background lets me read schematics and use laboratory tools. I know you shouldn\'t connect power to ground, and can troubleshoot communications systems at the board level.I have written embedded code in C and assembler on both RTOS and bare metal systems. These were often resource-constrained platforms in which every byte/cycle counted.I have been writing PC code in C++, C#, Delphi, C, and Visual Basic for over 20 years. Many of my applications interface with electronic systems of one kind or another. They are often multi-threaded real time applications for getting data into and out of external systems.My software development experience covers the entire life cycle, from initial customer contact, to gathering requirements, analysis, design, implementation, testing, documentation, deployment, debugging, maintenance, and even retiring outdated systems.I am comfortable working on my own on smaller projects, or with a team on larger systems. I work with colleagues and customers across time zones and continents.
