ABOUT JAMSHID ABOUEI
Jamshid Abouei is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, and a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Yazd University, Iran where he leads the research group at the Wireless Networking Laboratory (WINEL). Prior to joining Yazd University, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Multimedia Lab, in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, at the University of Toronto (under the supervision of Professors K.N. Plataniotis and Subbarayan Pasupathy) and worked as a Research Fellow at the Self-Powered Sensor Networks (ORF-SPSN) consortium between May 2009 and June 2010. He also worked at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada, as an Associate Researcher (on Sabbatical), between July 2019 and January 2021. Professor Abouei received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees (with the rank of first) in Electrical Engineering, both from Isfahan University of Technology, Iran in 1993 and 1996, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada (under the supervision of Prof. Amir K. Khandani) in 2009. From 1996 to 2004, he worked as a faculty member in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Yazd University, Iran. During this time, he was the head of Electrical laboratories at the Yazd University. From 1998 to 2004, he worked as a technical advisor and a design engineer (part-time) in the R&D center and the cable design department at the SGCC Company. His research interests are in the next generation of wireless networks (6G) and wireless sensor networks (WSNs), with a particular emphasis on PHY/MAC layer designs including the energy efficiency and optimal resource allocation in cell-free massive MIMO networks, multi-user information theory, femto-caching, applications of Federated Learning in wireless networks and Free Space Optical (FSO) communication systems. He is a Senior member and a member of the Information Theory. Professor Abouei has published 80 international journals, more than 40 national and international conference papers, one book, and two book chapters.
