About Abigail Roh
Driven by curiosity and commitment to making a positive impact, I am exploring opportunities to utilize my recent degree in a research, writing, or strategy position. I hope to contribute my analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills to a collaborative team. HOW I GOT HEREI loved psychology from the first class I took. Having worked in University of Minnesota labs as a high school researcher, I was already fascinated by how THINGS work, and psychology studies opened my eyes to how PEOPLE work. In my writing classes, I combined research with ideas and reflections to write fiction and nonfiction pieces. Both of my majors focused on people’s lives and experiences and the relationship between the past and the present.CAREER INTERESTSMy studies led me to discover interests in three different – but intertwined – career options: Research: I get excited about uncovering new questions and devising strategies to find the answers. I find the trial-and-error aspect of research very rewarding, and I enjoy all stages of research, from discerning research methods to writing papers. My past research efforts have focused on environmental issues, climate change messaging, infant development, and personality trait perception. I also have strong interests in perinatal, infant, and early childhood development. Writing: I love hearing others’ stories, so oral history and profile projects are among my favorites. Having honed my interviewing skills over time, I would love to do more of this work in the future. I am curious about exploring writing opportunities in creative nonfiction, journalistic reporting, science writing (especially psychology or environmental science), grant writing, or even script writing. I intend to continue writing speculative fiction on my own time. Business & Strategy: My favorite part of research is determining a long-term goal and problem-solving to find the best path to attaining that goal. Strategy jobs embrace the best features of research: identifying big-picture issues, exploring the root cause, analyzing data, and brainstorming insights-based solutions. I’m excited about developing, implementing, and measuring solutions to organizational problems.ABOUT MEIn my free time, I play violin and enjoy musical theater and crochet.
