ABOUT ABIGAIL JONES

I’m an award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author specializing in mental health, trauma and family. I’ve written cover stories, features and culture articles for The Washington Post Magazine, Newsweek and Vanity Fair, among other publications, on topics ranging from child sexual abuse, to schizophrenia and families, to women in the CIA. I am currently a 20••••21 Rosalynn Carter Fellow for Mental Health Journalism.Now a freelancer, I was a senior writer at Newsweek from 2013 to 2018, where I wrote more than a dozen cover stories for the magazine. Two of them won Front Page Awards from the Newswomen’s Club of New York: Best Medicine/Health Reporting for my 2017 cover story \"Cancer and Sex: Why Is Nobody Talking About It?\" and Best Magazine Interview for my 2016 cover profile \"Life After Eleven Years of Captivity, Rape and Torture: Michelle Knight’s Story.\" Other highlights- The CIA granted me access to seven women, many undercover, for a cover story on their extraordinary efforts to protect America in the face of sexism at one of the oldest boys\' clubs in the country- My investigation into the crime epidemic in Wilmington, Del, was cited on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives and, five years later, led to sweeping changes- My cover story on the global revolution over menstruation was a defining moment in the movement to link periods with equality, women\'s health and poverty.I\'ve also worked as an editor at the Forward and head of social media at The Daily, helping both publications establish their voices online, engage readers, increase followers and build brand awareness. In 2007, I co-authored the New York Times and #1 Boston Globe nonfiction bestseller “Restless Virgins: Love, Sex, and Survival in Prep School,” now a Lifetime Original Movie.
