ABOUT ABIGAIL BOOTH

I have done a wider range of work experience, volunteering and leadership. I shadowed a GP during May/ June 2022 from the Jean Bishop Centre in Hull across multiple local care homes. I took part in an end-of-day multidisciplinary team where I learned how healthcare professionals discussed care plans and goals for each patient seen. I visited care homes as a part of rapid response involving taking urgent bloods straight to Hull Royal Infirmary. I developed my professionalism skills and communication styles seeing a range of patients at different stages of their treatment journeys. In July 2022, I was selected to attend a 5-day Sutton Trust Medicine Summer School with Cardiff University. The Sutton Trust is a charity fighting for social mobility aiming to bring opportunities to young people despite their socio-economic background. Throughout the week, I visited Cardiff Medical School’s Health Hospital Campus where we learned how to take blood, place an NG tube and perform effective CPR. In groups, we researched and created a poster presentation on our choice of a medical ethics topic ours being designer babies. We won the best overall presentation of the week. This helped me to improve my teamwork skills in a group of people I had never met, along with time management of creating our posters and participating in scheduled activities.Throughout year 12 and 13 I look part in Leeds University’s Insight to Medicine course, where I joined a meeting every fortnight to develop my knowledge of applying to university including a day on campus. This developed my time management skills and commitment throughout the 18 month course.I am the elected Keele Korfball Sport Society Secretary for 2024/2025. We play in both local league and BUCS. I am responsible for liaising with the BUCS committee, the local league and both the Students’ and Athletic Unions. I organise gameplay and upcoming events, as well as managing the club’s social media to attract new members and share game results. I have achieved Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Throughout the process I completed various types of volunteering: 12 months mentoring Year 12s at my college, 12 months working on the till and stock at an Oxfam Charity shop and 3 months assisting a jazz class for pre-school children. I have been dancing since I was 4 alongside my studies. I have been on my academy’s competition team and helped us win our first regional competition as well as being chosen after auditions for my university contemporary show group.
