ABOUT ABIGAIL ALLAN
I am a second year fully funded DPhil (PhD) student continuing the topic of my MPhil thesis: the Greek vases of The National Trust. Alongside researching the history and provenance of these vases, I will offer advice on how to curate them, as I strive to combine my academic work with my curatorial practice, and part of my research will entail visiting various museums, galleries, and exhibitions to examine which curatorial decisions are most effective. I currently work with Fairfield House (Bath) as a Curatorial Consultant, where I am primarily responsible for establishing best museum practice and preparing the museum to earn Museum Accreditation. My interest in curating and collections care began at 17 when I worked for Moseley Old Hall (Wolverhampton), a National Trust property, as a Conservation Assistant. In the broader museums and heritage sector, I have previously worked for The Ashmolean Museum (Oxford), The British Museum (London), and National Historic Ships UK (London), for whom I wrote the Climate Change report described by The Heritage Alliance as a \'landmark report\'. I am particularly interested in climate change\'s impact on global heritage and the workings of the heritage sector, and as such have written in-depth on this topic during my MPhil, using the Egyptian site of Myos Hormos as a case study. I am looking forward to a career in curating and enjoy all aspects of it, from researching collections and meticulously creating museum procedures, to more practical and physical elements, such as fitting lighting and organising loans in and out. Feel free to contact me with curatorial opportunities and internships. My Academia.edu profile can be found here: https://oxford.academia.edu/AbigailAllan
