ABOUT ABHIRAJ BANERJEE
I studied History, Politics, and International Relations at Durham University to understand how global systems, institutions, and bureaucracies shape society. The degree’s flexibility allowed me to explore social, political, intellectual, and economic histories across Africa, North America, Europe, and South Asia, and to focus deeply on American Politics. Growing up in the UK, Singapore, and Delhi gave me a global outlook and a strong interest in how different cultures experience governance. My interest in how society interacts with public institutions led me to roles across the public and legal spheres. At the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), I researched the economic drivers of political polarisation. At the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in Washington, D.C, I studied the challenges technology poses to public life, deepening my understanding of the relationship between democracy, institutions, and emerging technologies. My experience at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero gave me insight into government operations, regulatory frameworks, and the energy sector. In the legal sector, I have gained broad exposure across multiple practice areas, including commercial real estate at Forsters, public law at the Government Legal Department, clinical negligence at Hugh James, commercial litigation at Sherrards Solicitors, and employment law at Rubix. These experiences deepened my understanding of how law underpins democratic systems, economic activity, and public accountability.I have complemented this with private-sector experience, including redeveloping a company intranet at Rubix, graduate recruitment for WISER\'s clients, contributing to product development at a Y-Combinator-backed start-up, and compliance research on driverless cars at Allianz. These roles strengthened my commercial understanding and project management skills.Beyond work and academics, I have earned various debate accolades at Model United Nations and the IEA, which developed my advocacy and analytical skills. As an amateur boxer, I train intensively alongside my studies, building resilience, discipline, and focus. I also completed the Durham Leadership Academy, further developing my leadership and teamwork capabilities.I’m driven to work where policy, law, and global affairs intersect, shaping decisions that make a real impact.
