ABOUT ABHIR IYER

I’m an IU Graduate Research Fellow currently building the automated infrastructure for the 50-year-old Cultural Indicators project.My work focuses on translating millions of hours of streaming video into quantifiable data. I develop Computer Vision models for action recognition (detecting physical force in video) and use Transformers to extract demographic indicators from program scripts at scale. Essentially, I’m moving research that used to take years of manual coding into automated, real-time pipelines.Beyond the research, I care about the engineering \"pipes.\" I’ve spent my time at Indiana University architecting ETL engines for high-volume Reddit data, deploying sentiment dashboards via Docker and AWS, and ensuring my code is stable enough to handle streaming data from platforms like Netflix and YouTube.I’m finishing my M.S. in Data Science at IU Bloomington in May 2026 and am looking for roles where I can build production-grade systems-whether that’s in Data Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, or Content Safety.
