ABOUT ABHINAV S RAO

I’m a second year B.Tech student at NITK and an electronics enthusiast who enjoys building systems from the ground up. My interests span embedded systems, digital design, and computer architecture, with a strong focus on understanding how hardware and software interact at a low level.Recently, my focus has shifted toward processor and SoC design and tapeout. Through the 1TOPS program, I’m involved in RISC V SoC development and tapeout activities, working on top level module integration and exploring on chip communication protocols and interconnect architectures including AXI, AXI Lite, AHB, and APB. This exposure has strengthened my interest in hardware system design and the broader VLSI ecosystem.Alongside this, I’ve been exploring Edge AI through hands on projects and experimenting with FPGA development using the Xilinx PYNQ platform. I’m particularly interested in understanding how hardware acceleration and efficient system design can bring intelligence closer to the edge.I’ve also worked extensively with STM32 microcontrollers using bare metal programming, developing low level drivers and working with peripherals such as GPIO, I2C, SPI, Timers, Interrupts, ADC, and 16×2 LCD interfaces. I enjoy working close to the hardware and often dive into memory maps, reference manuals, and data sheets to understand systems beyond abstraction layers.I’m currently building my foundations in embedded systems, computer architecture, and VLSI design through hands on projects and continuous learning, while working toward a career in embedded systems, processor architecture, and SoC design.
