ABOUT ABHIJIT DEY
I am a researcher and educator working at the intersection of rehabilitation robotics, haptic feedback, and human-machine interaction, with a focus on restoring human sensory capabilities through intelligent technology. My doctoral research in Human-Centered Robotics at IIT Guwahati, conducted at the Biomimetic Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Lab (BRAIL), focuses on developing neuromorphic, non-invasive tactile feedback frameworks for assistive systems. My work aims to enable more natural and intuitive prosthetic control by translating complex sensory information into meaningful human perception. This includes contributions in time-series modeling, vibrotactile encoding, and perceptual evaluation, grounded in rigorous human-centered experimental design. My research has been published in leading venues such as Transactions on Medical Robotics and Bionics, Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, and the International Journal of Intelligent Robotics and Applications, reflecting a consistent focus on bridging theoretical innovation with real-world applicability. Previously, I served as an Assistant Professor at Assam Down Town University, where I taught mathematics, logic, and programming. Alongside teaching, I mentored student innovation projects, including work with patent potential, and contributed to organizing academic events that foster collaboration between academia and industry. Beyond academia, I have experience across government, industry, and research-driven innovation ecosystems, enabling me to approach engineering challenges from multiple perspectives, ranging from grassroots education initiatives to applied technological systems. I am particularly interested in translating research into deployable, impact-driven solutions in assistive technology and human-centered AI. I am driven by the goal of building systems that combine technical intelligence with human understanding, contributing to technologies that are not only functional but truly meaningful in people’s lives.
