ABOUT ADAM BECK

I’m a senior at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, double-majoring in Journalism and Economics. I pride myself on being a versatile multimedia journalist committed to leveraging data and numbers to grow as a sportscaster and storyteller.Passionate about play-by-play, I’ve called nearly 85 summer league baseball games over the past two years. In 2025, I broadcasted for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod Baseball League, where I called 48 games across radio and TV streams. I was honored to be one of three broadcasters selected to call the 2025 Cape League All Star Game on NESN. I used my production experience with Big Ten Network to plan and produce highlights, graphics, live interviews and opens that elevated Y-D\'s broadcasts. At Big Ten Network, I’ve worked as a studio production intern on The B1G Show and B1G Today. I’ve cut highlights, montages, SOTs, VOs, opens, breakdown tapes and bumps, while making a point to be in the control room as much as possible. By watching producers, graphics producers and technical directors handle the unpredictability of live television, I’ve learned the elements and detail behind a successful show and how to problem solve in real time.At Northwestern, I’m the Sports Director for WNUR Sports and broadcast games for B1G+. With WNUR, I’ve gained experience broadcasting football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer and hockey. With B1G+, I’ve called over 30 games while also producing, running graphics and operating cameras - pairing those skills with my BTN experience to strengthen my understanding of the entire production process. In 2024, I called 35 games for the Arroyo Seco Saints in the California Collegiate League. Leaning into my love for data, I built a spreadsheet tool to streamline prep by pulling player trends and splits. Since then, I have expanded its use to prep for basketball, volleyball, football and softball. With the Y-D Red Sox, I adapted it to work with the MLB Research Tool.Outside of broadcasting, I’ve had print and on-camera experience with Inside NU and Sports. As Editor-in-chief of Inside NU during my junior year, I managed 25 writers, edited, published and budgeted 30 weekly articles and live-tweeted games and pressers for Inside NU’s followers on X. With Sports, I’ve anchored, reported and filmed studio segments. Comfortable behind the camera as a broadcaster, Sports allows me to get in front of the camera for on court standups, create packages and continue to add to my versatility as a multi-faceted storyteller.
