About Abdus Samad

I am a Professor and the Head of the Department of Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras, with over 15 years of experience in advancing research, teaching, and innovation in ocean engineering and marine renewable energy. My technical expertise spans wave energy systems, wave–structure interactions, design optimisation, and the application of AI in engineering.I have led and collaborated on major international projects with partners in the UK, USA, Germany, and South Korea, focusing on offshore renewables, coastal resilience, and sustainable maritime technologies. With more than 170 Scopus-indexed publications, five patents, and edited/author credits with Springer and Wiley, I remain committed to translating scholarly excellence into industry-ready, impactful solutions.My work aligns closely with the Blue Economy vision and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, combining scientific rigor with a mission-driven approach to sustainability. These contributions have brought multiple recognitions and awards for engineering and sustainable development.Beyond research, I actively lead international workshops, conferences, and capacity-building programmes, strengthening global networks and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.My vision is to build institutions, develop next-generation technologies, and nurture strategic partnerships that shape a safer, smarter, and more sustainable ocean future for India and the world.
