ABOUT ABDELRAHMAN RAYAN
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Donders Institute (Radboud University), working at the interface of neurophysiology, systems neuroscience, and machine learning to understand brain-state dynamics during sleep. My research focuses on moving beyond coarse sleep classification by quantifying REM/NREM substates and their transitions, linking neural signatures to functionally meaningful outcomes such as memory processing and circuit coordination.I combine experimental neurophysiology with rigorous quantitative analysis: designing analysis pipelines for neural time series, building interpretable models of state transitions, and applying machine-learning methods to large-scale biosignal data. My technical toolkit includes Python, MATLAB, and R, with experience across signal processing, statistical modeling, and ML-driven classification of brain states.I value research that is both mechanistically grounded and translationally relevant, and I enjoy collaborative, cross-disciplinary work spanning neuroscience, data science, and biomedical applications. I also have extensive experience mentoring students and interns, supervising data-analysis projects, and translating complex results into clear narratives for publications and presentations.Core interests: sleep architecture and microstructure, hippocampal–cortical interactions, state-space models of brain dynamics, robust ML for biosignals, reproducible computational pipelines, and translational neurophysiology.
