About Abdallah Salam
I am Of Counsel at Gibson Dunn and a member of the Litigation and International Arbitration Practice Groups. My practice focuses on representing clients in international commercial and investment arbitrations, complex commercial litigations, and cross-border government investigations. I have represented corporations, sovereign States, and private individuals in international arbitrations seated in various jurisdictions and governed by various substantive laws and arbitral rules. I have also represented a wide range of clients before U.S. state and federal courts as well as before regulators and law enforcement agencies. In addition, I have advised corporations on compliance with economic sanctions and anti-corruption laws and advised sovereign States on drafting and negotiating international investment treaties. My pro bono work has involved representing plaintiffs in U.S. federal lawsuits under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and advising non-governmental organizations on economic sanctions and public international law matters.Before joining private practice, I served as a Lecturer in the Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) program at Oxford University. I have also worked at the U.N. Office of Legal Counsel, the World Bank, Human Rights Watch, and Google.I earned a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University (magna cum laude and Harvard College Scholar), M.A. in Philosophy from Oxford University (First Class Honors on thesis), Ph.D. in Legal Philosophy from Oxford University (Excellent on Viva Assessment; dissertation on conflicts of rights in writings by International Law theorists), and a dual J.D./LL.M. respectively from Columbia University and Sciences Po, Paris (Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and Parker Award recipient).I am legally trained in the common law and civil law traditions and fluent in English, French and Arabic. I am licensed to practice in New York and have been admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States Court of International Trade.
