About Abby Hendrix

Abby Hendrix is an equity-minded education leader, union activist, and a politically engaged Democrat. Her husband John and her daughter, Daisy, reside in Columbia in Howard County. Ms. Hendrix is an Instructional Specialist focus on access and opportunity for historically marginalized students in middle school. Prior to that she led adult professional learning tied to school improvement goals, she also served as a science teacher and Science Department Chair for Montgomery County Public Schools. She’s an activist with Montgomery County Educators Association and Maryland State Education Association. Locally, she serves as the Chair of a Labor Management Collaboration Committee and the Chair of the State Resolutions Committee. She has also served as the past Secretary and Political Action and Legislative and Support Committee Co-Chair. Her team was instrumental in determining the Apple Ballot recommendations and getting people elected that support Public Education.Ms. Hendrix is the Chief Operating Officer of HoCo Pride as well as one of the founding members. She works to put in two festivals each year and creates other ways to engage the LGBTQIA+ community. Ms. Hendrix is also an activist working to get Democrats elected. She is a current the Chair of Emerge; a training program for Democratic women to win for office. I have also served as the Chair of the Howard County Democratic Central Committee, the Past-President of the Columbia Democratic Club and volunteers on numerous campaigns. She graduated from Emerge Maryland; a rigorous training program for Democratic women on running successful elections. She also served as the Chair of the Oakland Mills Village Board and worked with the community to improve the life of residents.She recently received a Master’s degree in Equity and Excellence in Education and a Graduate Certificate for Administration in Education
