ABOUT ABAYOMI MOSAKU
Mosaku Abayomi is an Engineering Project leader spearheading the design, and implementation of series of large-scale genomics projects. He joined the leadership of the European Molecular Biology Lab (EMBL) GWAS project 5years ago, leading the design of the overall systems architecture, providing technical direction of the project while managing and coaching a diverse team of software engineers, and bioinformaticians. In his previous work as a Senior software engineer at The EMBL-EBI, PDX Finder Project, he helped establish the resource as the largest open global cancer research portal for Patient Derived Xenograft (PDX) models. PDX models are mouse strains engineered to propagate human cancers used in clinical research to test new chemotherapeutic regimes and study drug resistance mechanisms. He obtained his M.Eng in Computer Engineering at Covenant University & BSc. degree in Computer Sci. & Eng. at Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. He was a recipient of the NIH NHGRI Graduate Fellowship Award during his masters degree, he was also a recipient of the H3Africa initiative grant with which he researched at the Leibniz HKI, Germany. He also contributed to EU-funded projects for developing and fostering adoption of Science Gateways and e–Infrastructures in Africa, some ofthese includes; the Sci-GaIA, INDIGO-DataCloud, COST ENeL project, and several others.Abayomi has been building web, mobile and embedded systems for over 15 years. He has worked with a wide variety of technologies and clients. He is also a full stack Web Developer, UX designer, and biomedical engineer skilled in creating scientific and business software application using both software and firmware programming languages. His interests cut across building scientific and mission critical software, robotics, computational biology, algorithms, machine learning techniques to solve human problems, and building resilient computing systems for managing large-scale datasets. He builds user-friendly intelligent machines that can sometimes \"see\" and at most times \"reason\", He build complex software that read in and process terabytes of genomic data sets, as well as databases and information systems used to store, and organize genomic data. His daily research, software and hardware design draws upon techniques from artificial intelligence, soft computing, Machine Learning, image processing, data science, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing and theoretical foundations such as discrete mathematics, Graph Theory, control theory, system theory, information theory, and statistics.
