Baytown, TX, US
In my role as an Industrial Engineering Technician at JSW Steel USA, I support the safe and reliable operation of 26 overhead cranes that keep our steel mill running 24/7. My responsibilities focus on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, equipment reliability, and ensuring safe, efficient crane operations in a high-risk industrial environment.1) Mechanical & Electrical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair faults across motors, magnets, limit switches, hot shoes, conductor bars, festoons, and control circuits, responding to 7–8 critical breakdowns per shift.2) VFD Optimization: Adjust and fine-tune Magnetek VFD parameters to reduce mechanical shock, smooth crane travel, and cut recurring breakdowns by over 60%.3) Operations & Maintenance Support: Assist with projects such as wheel replacements, conductor bar realignments, electrical upgrades, and modernization projects to improve crane performance and reduce downtime.4) Safety & Compliance: Work with Operations and Safety teams to enforce LOTO, fall protection, and high-risk work protocols during elevated, heat-exposed, and confined-space tasks.5) Reliability & Preventive Maintenance: Contribute to CMMS implementation by cataloging crane assets and improving preventive maintenance planning to strengthen long-term reliability.
