ABOUT AARONKUMAR EHAMBRAM
I\'m a research scientist, SLAM expert and robotics enthusiast currently working at the BMW Group in Munich. I developed my enthusiasm for topics related to robotics and autonomous driving long before I started my doctorate. Already in my bachelor studies I discovered my great interest in mobile robotics and topics related to SLAM. Besides hobby projects at home, I focused my studies in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology accordingly. While as a working student at Lenze SE I gained deep practical knowledge on electric drives, control and frequency inverters, during my internship at KUKA I obtained further experience with common robotics software such as ROS and 3D perception algorithms for localization and mapping. In the Bosch corporate research department I got the opportunity to write my master\'s thesis. During this time, I developed a guidepost mapping and implemented a map aggregation of multiple drives with a large bundle block adjustment using graph optimization. During my Ph.D, I have worked extensively on localization algorithms in building maps using LiDAR sensors, stereo cameras, GNSS data, and IMUs. My research focuses on developing a hybrid localization method that combines probabilistic and set-membership-based uncertainty models to take advantage of both approaches. As a result, I have developed a new real-time localization approach that allows vehicles to be localized reliably under consideration of sensor and map uncertainties based on buildings in urban areas. What I particularly appreciate about my time as a doctoral student is the freedom to explore different topics that excite me and take me further. I enjoy learning new topics and looking at a problem from different viewpoints. I can quickly get excited about innovative topics and ideas. Despite my urge to research, I am able to develop holistic solutions in a structured way from start to finish and to work on them independently, as the short and intensive doctoral period and the newly developed localization algorithm prove.
