The first big career change I made was when my daughter was born with a brain abnormality in 2009. We were new parents, and had no idea what was in store for us, but I knew I had to cut my commute.I had earned my MBA with the goal of working in banking and insurance. I had built up a career in HR and Corporate Training, but I pivoted. I became a stay at home dad and taught my daughter how to walk. Every nap time, I would pull out manuals and learn SQL with the hope that working with data might give me more flexibility.When I started looking for work, I Immediately started getting contracts. First a few, then a lot as people started reaching out. My wife and I had been worried that I might have trouble finding work, but instead I worked solidly during that first 8 years. Then, in 2019, I got an offer to work as as Sales Engineer for ThoughtSpot. All my life I had wondered what I would be when I grew up, and now I had found it. I love being an SE, and I\'ve done it ever since.My daughter is approaching the end of grade school, and thanks to lots of time and support, she\'s doing well. When my kids ask me what I do for a living, I tell them the story I\'ve just told you.The thing I love most about being an SE is that I get to work with people to solve really hard problems. I love how technology, processes, and people can come together to create business value.As a final note, I also love meeting new people.
