ABOUT AARON LANGLEY
Mission Statement/Motivation:I am a young professional seeking to promote sustainable agriculture and to improve food security for the world\'s most vulnerable people. Background:After graduating in 2016 with a BA in International Relations from American University in Washington DC, I worked with Foreign Service Officers at the US Department of State\'s Foreign Service Institute to help advise them on and enroll them for diplomatic training. From 20••••20, I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania, where I worked with local partners to improve community awareness and implementation of sustainable agricultural practices and public health, to serve the larger goals of improved food security and children\'s nutrition. My experience in Peace Corps helped me to recognize the importance of resilient, sustainable food systems and inspired me to seek further education in global food security, and in 2021 I completed a Master of Professional Studies at Cornell University with a focus in rural agricultural development. My studies focused on data collection and analysis, agroecology, and designing environmentally sustainable food systems. In my current position I support the USAID-funded Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), a $27~ million/year project which provides high quality food security data collection and predictive analysis. I help manage the day-to-day operations of four of our project offices in East Africa: Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda, to ensure the offices remain in good legal standing, staff receive their proper pay and benefits, and that the legal requirements of all parties (US federal law, USAID regulations, and the laws of the host country) are thoroughly followed and upheld.Quick facts:Hometowns: Sharon, MA / Washington, DCHobbies/interests: Guitar, singing (badly), and hikingFun fact: I was briefly a professional ultimate frisbee player
