About Aaron Hipp
J. Aaron Hipp, Ph.D, is Professor of Community Health and Sustainability, University Faculty Fellow, and Associate Director of Social and Behavioral Science Applications with the Center for Geospatial Analytics at NC State. Dr. Hipp is an alumnus of the Interdisciplinary Research Leadership program through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Hipp is a physical activity and built environment scientist with a focus on equitable spaces for active living and emerging measurement technologies and data collaboration. He has worked with local and national non-profit organizations, public schools, YMCAs, park systems, micro-mobility providers, active travel organizations, and sports associations.Dr. Hipp has instructed undergraduate and graduate courses in evaluation design, measurement, data analytics, GIS, built environment and public health, and nature and wellness. Dr. Hipp has collaborated on over $7 million in external grant funding resulting in community reports, data dashboards, book chapters, and over 125 peer-reviewed publications. This work has been supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, National Recreation and Parks Association, US Department of Agriculture, World Playground Research Institute, US Golf Association, US Forest Service, National Park Service, NC Division of Public Health, NC Department of Transportation, NC State Center for Human Health and the Environment, NC State Data Science Academy, and KABOOM!Dr. Hipp is currently on the Steering Committee for the National Physical Activity Plan.
