I am a synthetic chemist with a PhD in organic chemistry (Yale, 2014). Throughout my career, my focus has been on synthesis, catalysis, and phosphorus.Since 2022, I have conducted research in a homogeneous catalysis group at Johnson Matthey, where I develop and test new products, improve synthesis of known products (decreasing cost), and find new applications or more effective ways to use them (increasing value). I prepare novel complexes or demonstrate novel routes to ligands and complexes that are already known and valued, scaling up from idea to 10-gram-scale, before handing off promising leads to process development chemists.When possible, I like to have a mechanistic understanding of my chemistry and proceed \"rationally\". But I am also aware that chemistry can be very unpredictable and inexplicable, so sometimes you just have to try things and go with what works.
