ABOUT AAMER ESMAIL
Aamer’s mission is to empower individuals and groups to create positive change in themselves, their communities, and the world. A subject matter expert on ED & I, anti-racism, and LGBTQ+ inclusion, Aamer has worked with local and national organizations for over 20 years to institute comprehensive strategies and action plans that go beyond mere lip service. These organizations have included the United Nations Association in Canada, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, the University of Toronto’s Anti-racism and Cultural Diversity Office, Sherbourne Health, MENTOR Canada, Child Welfare League of Canada, BGC Canada and Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board of Florida. Aamer currently leads the ED & I portfolio at Ontario Power Generation (OPG), a global climate change leader and one of North America’s largest, most diverse electricity generators with over employees. As Senior Manager, Aamer is spearheading transformative change through the strategic execution of OPG’s 10-year ED & I Strategy. This includes accountability to ensure compliance and progress on the company’s employment systems review, employment equity plan, and multi-year organizational assessment through the global diversity equity and inclusion benchmarks (GDEIB). Aamer leads a team to work with stakeholders across OPG to leverage data-driven insights to implement targeted employment equity initiatives, ensure equitable recruitment and advancement practices, champion meaningful employee engagement opportunities, and offer inclusive leadership training to cultivate a culture of belonging.
