ABOUT AALIYAH JOHNSON

As Black feminists and lesbians we know that we have a very definite revolutionary task to perform and we are ready for the lifetime of work and struggle before us.\"Combahee River Collective, April 1977I’m a storyteller, digital steward, and creative technologist in training. I am currently pursuing my Master of Library and Information Science at the University of Washington iSchool. As a librarian-in-training, content creator, gamer, and aspiring game developer, I’m passionate about video game scholarship, digital archives, storytelling, and community-centered design. My passions span three evolving fields:• Archives & Memory Work: Preserving marginalized histories, gaming culture, and digital ephemera.• Library Science: Advancing equitable access to information, open access, and media literacy.• Gaming & Content Creation: Building community through storytelling and game development, specifically world-building in virtual environments I.e. Unity, The Sims, etc. My journey began on the South Side of Chicago, where I graduated as Salutatorian from Young Women’s Leadership Charter School in Bronzeville. At 17, I was awarded the Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship, which allowed me to pursue a B.A. in Africana Studies and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies at Barnard College.I am actively seeking employment, research, and learning opportunities in museums, libraries, archives and gaming. Looking forward to new connections, DMs open.
