I’m part of the Anti-Financial Crime team within Google’s Payments Platform. Our mission is to prevent restricted parties (e.g, sanctioned individuals, terrorist organizations, and other high-risk entities) from accessing Google’s financial services. I’ve contributed across the different parts of the system—from backend development and data quality to production reliability.Key Contributions: Platform Feature Development- Designed and implemented database schemas, plugin modules to support evolving requirements- Updated core SQL logic and backend services to incorporate billable service metadata, improving customer activity tracking across platforms. Data Integrity & Monitoring- Built backfill jobs to correct inconsistencies and maintain data accuracy- Developed monitoring tools to proactively detect data anomalies, ensuring clean and reliable data- Enhanced dashboards with new filters and metrics to support product-level analysis. Production Health & Reliability- Streamlined legacy rescan workflows, reducing failure noise and improving system clarity- Developed alerting systems for matches requiring manual finalization, and built dashboards to track pending actions—enhancing visibility and response times- Made finalization thresholds product-specific, reducing false positives and improving the customer experience- Addressed production issues including alert repairs, data fixes, and alerting noise reduction- Fixed broken alert metrics, including a deployment issue that had been unresolved for 7 months. Added checks to prevent similar issues in the future. Customer Segmentation & Metadata Projects- Implemented a new segmentation framework classifying customers based on transaction activity- Added columns to core tables and built SQL Borg jobs to import and maintain this data.
