ABOUT AAKARSHA PANDEY
I am a broadly trained molecular biologist with 8+ years of research and teaching experience at various academic institutions in the United States. I recently completed my second masters in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology with my research thesis focusing on mitochondrial DNA sequencing in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis patients. The goal of my project was to investigate the role of mtDNA heteroplasmy (collection of varied DNA sequences) in precipitating ME/CFS. I generated pooled mitochondrial DNA libraries from 434 blood samples using a novel sequencing protocol STAMP that was developed in my lab. I performed QC on the library samples and prepped them forsequencing. During my time at Cornell, I worked on two other rotation projects 1. Generating specific recombinant strains of C.elegans to serve as models for investigating key players in the Bone Morphogenetic Pathway (BMP). I was responsible for designing and executing the genetic crosses; genotyping and preserving the successfully generated strains and presenting my work.
