ABOUT ASHLEY ANTHONY
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to storytelling and the power it holds to connect us across boundaries. Early in my career, as I began working in radio and journalism, I found myself captivated by the stories of others—the lives, communities, and traditions that shape who we are. My path led me across Canada, from the bustling streets of Toronto, Ontario to our quaint home in Saint John, New Brunswick. In between, enriched by the remote, breathtaking landscapes of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and Terrace, British Columbia. Along the way, I came face-to-face with a deep truth: our environment is not just a backdrop to our lives but an integral part of our identities, traditions, and future. During my years in broadcasting, I shared stories that often echoed a theme of urgency around environmental and cultural preservation. Covering stories from the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls to the largest wildfire season in British Columbia’s history, the impacts of Site C, and lowering water levels in the Mackenzie Delta - I witnessed firsthand how environmental and societal issues are intertwined. The communities I served weren’t just looking for news; they were looking for a voice to amplify their concerns and a platform to engage others in their struggles and triumphs. While these experiences were fulfilling, I felt an itch that my work was not complete. I wanted to do more—to shift from broadcasting events to actively creating change. I began to see climate education as a powerful tool that could empower communities and inspire action. So, I stepped away from the path I had carefully carved out for myself, leaving behind a stable career in broadcasting to pursue new education and training in environmental communication. This journey led me to pursue a Master of Arts in Environmental Education and Communication at Royal Roads University, where I deepened my understanding of communicating complex environmental issues in ways that resonate with diverse audiences. Today, with years of hands-on experience and academic insight, I am committed to using my voice and platform to foster a deeper understanding of climate change, promote sustainability, and champion solutions. I aim to bring people together across communities, bridging the gaps between those who have long advocated for environmental protection and those just beginning to understand its urgency. I believe that by building meaningful connections, we can inspire collective action that transcends politics, borders, and backgrounds.
