ABOUT ROPER

Served in Army command and staff assignments spanning a period of thirty-nine years. Leader of diverse teams and complex organizations. As a Citizen-Soldier, over 33 years of law enforcement experience culminating with my 10 year tenure as the Chief of Police of the Birmingham Police Department. Known as a transformational leader, the department was recognized as a national model for community policing and citizen engagement. Education includes a Bachelor of Science from Troy University, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. Also, conferred an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Oakland City University in Indiana. A graduate of the FBI National Academy and the FBI National Executive Institute; attended the National Counter-Terrorism Seminar in Israel, completed the FEMA Vanguard Crisis Leadership Program and has studied executive leadership development at Harvard University. An Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice and has lectured nationally and internationally on various strategic leadership topics.
