ABOUT MARK NEWKIRK

I am passionate about leading organizational teams focused on supporting the warfighter with advanced aerospace technologies and improve operational situational awareness using innovative communication technologies, predictive analytics, and AI. I recently wrapped up a 25-year career as a U.S. Navy Captain leading and inspiring diverse teams across the Department of Defense. My career began in Naval Aviation as a helicopter pilot attached to aircraft carriers supporting global operations. Early on in my career, I unearthed a passion for developing operations focused on collaborating and characterizing critical information to make time-sensitive decisions that carry strategic implications. My naval aviation career culminated with a successful squadron command tour where I led 300 inspirational professional sailors and aviators operating eight factory delivered Sikorsky MH-60S Seahawk helicopters. I was challenged to lead a cross-functional multi-disciplined team by balancing maintenance, training, safety, and operations requirements to execute missions in anti-submarine warfare, special forces operations, ISR, force protection, combat search and rescue, and logistics. As US Africa Command\'s Joint Operations Center Director, I directed multiple real-world multi-domain operations including the Ebola outbreak in 2014 and the US Embassy evacuation from Tripoli, Libya. Both operations integrated a multitude of strategic mission systems to produce real-time monitoring and reporting to ensure the safety of US-Allied service members executing no-fail missions. Additionally, I coordinated with UK and French militaries to build a Joint Task Force intelligence-driven operations center for Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon improving their C4ISR capabilities to counter terrorism in the region. As the Director of NORAD & USNORTHCOM’s Command Center, I recognized the importance of Joint All Domain Situational Awareness. Every day at NORAD & USNORTHCOM, I lead operations in multiple missions spanning from Southwest Border Operations, Strategic Long Range Aviation Defense in the Arctic, to Global Missile/Space Warning and Defense. These joint multi-domain missions require optimal systems to guarantee mission assurance.I look forward to apply my operational experience to help advance companies and organizations focused on applying and delivering space capabilities both in the space domain and to support the joint warfighter.
