Visualizations Lead
Sep 2023 — Present · Baltimore, MD, US
I have been a dedicated member of the Delineo team for multiple semesters, contributing to both the technical and collaborative aspects of our project. I began on the Fullstack team in my sophomore year, where I researched and implemented the connection between the new (now a year old) website’s backend API and our disease simulator. I utilized Postman to verify data integrity and ensure that the frontend’s input parameters were accurately received by the simulator. I then expanded my involvement to help create the dynamic map-based visualization of disease spread that is on our webpage. I implemented user-friendly interactive elements like the sliders and input boxes so that viewers could explore the simulator’s outputs across various time frames and conditions. I also optimized facility clustering to ensure the interface ran smoothly while depicting complex data sets.In the following two semesters, I worked closely with other lab mates across teams to remodel how simulator data moved between the backend and frontend. I led efforts to develop richer visualizations like interactive pop-up graphs and facility-specific statistics. These additions allowed viewers to better interpret infection rates and recovery numbers among other essential metrics for understanding the simulation. When the simulator adopted a new random seed setting for offering either a deterministic or varied outcome, I verified that the website correctly displayed these changing simulation results to maintain quality control and user experience.Throughout my time on Delineo, I have been a proactive team player. I frequently reviewed my team\'s code to provide constructive feedback and effectively coordinated tasks across multiple sub teams, especially when working with the Simulations team. My work spans backend API development, data pipeline optimization, and front-end visualization, as well as professionalism and reliability to present during symposiums.
