ABOUT LES WONG

Les Wong is an experienced cyber security leader with 20 years of experience helping organizations of all sizes assess and manage cyber risks. He worked at the highest levels of the Canadian government advising the Prime Minister and Cabinet on national cyber security issues, and most recently served as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of TELUS, one of Canada’s leading national network operators. Operationally, Les has developed and led cyber security programs for organizations of all sizes, including small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) served by TELUS Security Solutions, TELUS’s own national Security Operations Centre, and the federal Cyber Threat Evaluation Centre.As a CISO, Les has a nuanced and deep understanding of the evolving cyber security and cloud services landscape as well as the risk management and compliance needs of enterprises of all sizes. He managed a $100M portfolio of cybersecurity services for TELUS, curating B2B cybersecurity and consulting offerings. He has successfully led cyber incident response teams responding to denial of service, data breach, and ransomware scenarios under high pressure, mission critical situations.Les is a Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP) and holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from Queen’s University, with undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and English Literature from the University of Calgary. He is a graduate of the Council of Canadian Innovators’ Innovation Governance Program, and the Canadian Armed Forces College Canadian Security Studies Programme.
